Titch's idealistic plans are soon shattered, and Washington finds himself in mortal danger. Its setting is very well described and the characters develop nice and evenly and give more depth to the environment the book is placed in. The demands of this book are dealing with the throngs of characters, and long periods of time with the arcing stories. There are brilliant, beautiful passages and scenes. Prepare to be chilled, electrified and entertained - a gem of a novel from 'one of the most brilliantly inventive writers of this, or any country' Independent. Just being in this place; witnessing this culture, and its characters, was enough to keep me listening.

Titch's idealistic plans are soon shattered, and Washington finds himself in mortal danger. This utterly original and wildly satisfying new novel gets such a dazzling performance here that you are torn between wanting to know how it ends and hoping it never does.

I also don't know if it is the fault of the author or if the audio book has skipped some chapters because it seems to have all the loose ends pull together in one chapter which I found to be quite sudden.
But Holly is no typical teenage runaway: I found these issues compounded by the narration--not by the narrator, but by experiencing this book audibly. Exquisitely crafted and beautifully performed!
